Will you be visiting Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is the new European hotspot for a romantic getaway for two.

Much of the appeal of the city lies in its historic architecture, stunning canals, relaxed ambiance and romantic walks.

The findings were revealed as part of KLM’s Great Holland Getaway poll, where Facebook users took to the social networking site to share their travel plans.

Reasons for visiting the Dutch capital included the city’s wealth of gourmet restaurants and upmarket bars and taking in the capital’s renowned nightlife. Amsterdam’s cultural sites also remain a draw with more than 40 per cent of Brits stating they wished to experience its museums.

If you are planning a trip to Holland in the next three months, the Netherlands’ home carrier, KLM, is your best option with over 70 daily flights from the UK and Ireland. Here are some inspirational trip ideas from KLM:

Open Garden Days, 15 - 17 June 2012
Discover the beautiful flora and fauna in the private gardens of stately homes along Amsterdam’s canals. Usually closed to the public, the doors are opened once a year, giving you the chance to explore the hidden beauty behind the old merchants' houses.

Enjoy the Jazz, 6 – 8 July 2012
For 3 days, Rotterdam is the Jazz Capital of the world. Enjoy the North Sea Jazz Festival, a unique historic festival that will see more than a thousand musicians, spread out over 150 performances and thirteen different stages. The line-up this year will include Van Morrisson, Lenny Kravitz, Aloe Blacc and many more jazz legends.

Floriade 2012, A festival for the senses, until 7th October 2012
From now until the 7th of October, you can visit the world’s largest green expo that only takes place one every ten years. Based in the historic city of Venlo, southeastern Holland, it is the perfect opportunity to try many delicious regional and international dishes, enjoy a wide variety of shows and have fun at a musical festival.

Shower Your Loved One with Flowers, Daily
The Bloemenmarkt ("flower market") in Amsterdam is the only floating flower market in the world, and one of the most fragrant places of interest in Amsterdam. Bursting with colourful bunches of seasonal flowers year-round and most at prices well below what you usually pay in the UK, it is the perfect excuse to create a hotel room in bloom whilst in Amsterdam!

Take your romance to new heights
For couples wishing to celebrate, ascend to Twenty Third, a cocktail bar on the top (yes, the 23rd) floor of the five-star Hotel Okura, Amsterdam. Sample one of the 20 delicious types of Champagne available and take in one of the best bird's-eye views of Amsterdam.

Sweet dreams
Amsterdam's canals create a dream-like scene, but have you ever thought about having sweet dreams on the water yourself? Book a houseboat and sip afternoon cocktails on your own floating terrace as you experience the canal life like a couple of locals.

Getting to Holland couldn’t be easier, KLM flies to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol from 14 airports across the UK with lead in fares from £79 return including all taxes.
