Alton Towers never fail to surprise us with their brand new rides and attractions, and this year is no different, as they've revealed they'll be bringing The World of David Walliams to the theme park, including a Gangsta Granny-themed ride!

The 4D ride experience promises to be a thrilling adventure, as visitors join the story's main characters and attempt to pull off the greatest heist in the history of the world: to steal the Crown Jewels.

Guests will jump on board a Royal Carriage, setting off on a Crown Jewels tour before being caught up in Ben and Granny's mischievous plans. The ride will "whizz, twist and spin passengers 360 degrees through a series of scenes where they will see, feel, hear and even smell an electrifying and unique re-telling of the Gangsta Granny story."

State-of-the-art special effects, 3D projection-mapping and animation inspired by Tony Ross' instantly-recognisable artwork will be used, as guests descend into the sewers and are chased through the streets of London, before coming face-to-face with the Queen herself.

As well as the ride, the new World of David Walliams area will include Raj's Shop, a Royal Carousel, and Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp, with other surprises and twists promised along the way.

“I’m absolutely thrilled that Gangsta Granny is becoming a ride at Alton Towers.” comments comedian, actor and best-selling author David Walliams. “I never imagined it would happen so it’s a real delight to see my characters brought to life in a ride.

“I’ve worked really closely with the team at Alton Towers to make sure the ride is just as funny and exciting as the book. I think children and their parents - and even their grandparents! - are going to love it!”

To celebrate the announcement of Gangsta Granny: The Ride, and to acknowledge the amazing adventures that children can enjoy with their grandparents (who aren’t always as boring as they think), Alton Towers is also inviting children to bring their Granny (or Grandpa) for free in 2020.

Booking is now also open for four fully-themed Gangsta Granny rooms at the Alton Towers hotel, with prices from £281.50 based on a family of four sharing Bed & Breakfast basis.
