Only 6% of however worry about their pets getting flees, despite the increased likelihood of this over everything else that could go wrong. 27% of pet owners have been bitten by the fleas passed on by their animals which can take up to 3 months to irradicate.

Tanya Leslie, FRONTLINE’s® Veterinary Technical Manager comments: “Our research shows 66% of Brits spend more on their holiday to enjoy it with their pet. It’s great to hear pets have as much fun in the sun as us. Just as Brits abroad can suffer health problems as a consequence of their fun loving, pets’ welfare is our main concern. Fleas are a serious threat to pets in summer, with an explosion of the flea population in the warmer months. This is why we try and make it as easy as possible for pet owners to protect their pets with our FRONTLINE brand products. That way pets will look and feel their best in time for their summer fun”.

For those who take their pets on holiday be mindful of the following advice:

Make sure that you don’t leave your pets put the sun for every long, despite all that fur they still get sunburn. Don’t leave them in the car as they can overheat and get dehydrated quickly.

Make sure that they have a good supply of food, so just like children they don’t eat lots of treats in replacement of their normal meals. If you’re worried about them running away then get them chipped so they can be found if the worst happens.

Take plenty of toys to keep them happy when there is lull in the day, protect them against fleas with a flea treatment. Ensure that you have taken them to the vets to get all of their jabs; they are just like us before they go abroad and need to have the relevant injections to keep them healthy.

When you are at the vets talk to them about deworming and if they have any long term medication, then ensure that you have the contact details for a vet at your holiday destination, so you can easily go to them in an emergency. Ask for their advice, tell them where you are going and find out if there is anything else that you should know about treatments or precautions.
