Freddie Highmore plays Norman Bates

The show is a prequel to 'Psycho', but takes place in the modern-day

The show will explore the events that led up to Norman Bates becoming the infamous killer we see in the classic, and the reasons behind exactly why Norman turns out the way he does. However, this is no 1960's horror, with Norman listening to music on his iPhone in episode one.
His relationship with his mother, Norma is a huge talking point and a third member of the Bates family - Norman's half-brother Dylan Massett - is introduced, bringing a whole new dimension to the series.

There are just 10 episodes

The season runs for a total of 10 episodes which were all filmed in Aldergrove, British Columbia, Canada. A second season is currently in development due to critical acclaim and great ratings overseas.

Alfred Hitchcock's 'Psycho' isn't forgotten

Minor details make all the difference in the world of horror. Throwbacks are made throughout the show, with an exact replica of the motel used in the classic film Psycho being duplicated for filming of the television series. Beady-eyed super-fans may even notice the framed bird sketches on the walls where Marion Crane is to be murdered in Norman's later years.

Episode three, "What's Wrong with Norman" airs 9pm Thursday September 26 on Universal Channel.
