20.00–22.00Continuing tonight is the second season of the award-winning hospital drama. Currently the toprated show in the US, Grey’s Anatomy charts the personal and professional lives of a group of young surgical interns. In the first episode of tonight’s double bill, life at Seattle Grace returns to normal after the dramatic events of last week’s episodes – until a face from Derek and Addison’s past shows up, that is.Meredith is intrigued when a handsome stranger arrives at the hospital and starts flirting shamelessly with her, but the promising conversation is soon cutshort when Derek turns up and punches the man in the face. It turns out that the visitor is Derek’s former best friend, Dr Mark Sloan (guest star Eric Dane, ‘Charmed’) – the man who Derek found in bed with Addison a year ago. Mark’s arrival sets hearts aflutter among the female interns, who waste no time in dubbing him ‘McSteamy’ – but his presence unsettles Addison, who is rattled when he tells her that he’s here to win her back. “I’m in love with my husband, Mark,” she insists. “But he’s not in love with you,” replies Mark. “He’s in love with that intern – and he’s not even trying to hide it. Why would you want to stick around for that?”Mark causes trouble elsewhere when he muscles in on the case of Jake, a young patient with an advanced case of craniodiaphyseal dysplasia – even though Derek is concerned that the disfiguring bony tumours growing on Jake’s skull are pressing on his brain and suggests surgery, but Mark – a renowned plastic surgeon back in New York – informs Jake that work could also be done to reshape his face. Jake’s parents are worried that it will all be too much for their son to cope with, but Jake begs them to let him undergo both surgeries. Meredith, meanwhile, is helping out Chuck, a lung cancer patient about to undergo an operation which gives him a one in four chance of survival. He wants to record farewell messages in case he doesn’t make it, but when Meredith realises that the messages are actually ‘hate tapes’ attacking everyone who ever wronged him, she wonders if she should even post them. Also in ‘Yesterday’, Izzie and George treat a young woman who keeps having embarrassing ‘episodes’, and George finally tells Meredith how he feels –with surprising consequences. Concluding tonight’s double bill is ‘What Have I Done to Deserve This?’ in which George and Meredith must deal with the fall-out from what happened the night before; and Izzie is shocked when heart patient Denny is rushed in. It turns out that baring his soul to Meredith may not have been the best thing for the love-struck George to have done. “I did something bad,” confesses Meredith to Alex, who, along with everyone else, is wondering what on earth happened between the pair that has caused the tension now evident between them. But when George thinks that Meredith has told Alex what happened last night, he blurts out the truth to everyone within earshot...

Izzie seems to be faring better in the romance department, as her relationship with Alex appears to be back on track. But when charming hearttransplant patient Denny is readmitted, Alex becomes jealous at the obvious attraction between the two. Is he right to be worried? Also in tonight’s second episode, Bailey helps Addison out with an embarrassing problem; Burke treats a man whose fiancée leaves him before the operation; and a guilty Meredith realises that she may be about to lose all of her friends.
