Tuesday 28th April

Maddy is late for work. She heads up to the ward but has missed the morning briefing. Ric isn't impressed but before Maddy can explain, Ric berates her for being late. Maddy asks Ric about Tom as she hasn't heard from him in a while. Ric explains that Tom is no longer a member of his team and doesn't want his name mentioned again.

Lalaine's stay with Daisha is almost over. Daisha isn't pleased as she has had so much free time lately and has got use to the extra help with baby Joe. Lalaine gets a call from the Philippines, it's about her mother, who has taken a fall and has broken her hip. Lalaine explains that she will need to go home earlier than she originally planned but Daisha doesn't take this well.  She knows her mother needs Lalaine but feels that she needs her more. Lalaine suggests to Daisha that maybe she should take baby Joe to the Philippines to live with her for while and allow Dasha more time to herself. Daisha doesn't know what to think - how could she leave her baby?

Annelese's manslaughter charge has been dropped- all she needs to deal with now is the civil case against the Trust. Although the charges have been dropped Annalese cannot return to work until the civil case it sorted.  Michael is determined to get her back to work with a clear reputation.

Maddy is clearing out Tom's locker and pulls out a plastic bag. Inside is a wrap of drugs, tourniquet and syringe. She opens the wrap - its heroin. Ric appears in the doorway, Maddy turns to see Ric glaring at her. He wants to know what is taking her so long. Maddy quickly hides the drugs behind her back. Ric isn't in the best mood as he sees Maddy as Tom's partner in crime and is taking out his feelings on her. Ric questions Maddy's work, he wants to see her improve or she will leave like Tom.  Maddy realises that there was lots about Tom she didn't know, and her friendship with him may have harmed her career.

Maddy wants to prove that she's not like Tom. She races to the ward as Ric wants her to look after a medical student. Maddy is happy to help as she needs to prove herself to him.

Mark gets wind of Lalaine's plans to take baby Joe to the Philippines. He isn't happy and explains to Lalaine that she should have never suggested it as Daisha is coping just fine.  An emotional Lalaine explains to Mark that she has found comfort in looking after baby Joe because she had lost a baby only a month previously. Mark asks why she hasn't told Daisha, she explains with all Daisha's problems she didn't want to make them worse. Mark tells her that she has to tell Daisha.

Ric wants a progress report on the ward rounds with Maddy and the medical student. The student aims to impress Ric and Maddy has to be on top form or she will end up looking the fool in front of Ric. With every question that Ric asks about a case, Maddy tries to answer and be one step ahead, but the medical student seems to be stealing her thunder. Maddy still has a lot to prove.

Harrison, Michael's lawyer, meets with Connie who has been asked to sit in on the legal discussions today on behalf of the Trust. Harrison explains that if the Trust is prepared to settle out of court this will ruin Annalese's future and she would no longer be able to work at the hospital. This in turn could lead to a court case against the Trust about unfair dismissal. Connie offers Harrison anything he wants if he withdraws his involvement in this case.

Maddy is treating a patient, who has a complicated condition. Ric asks Maddy to bring him up to speed on the patient and desperate to impress she nervously makes a mistake. Ric's unimpressed and tells Maddy to find him someone to assist in theatre - Maddy volunteers herself, but Ric says he wants someone else as Maddy isn't up to it. Maddy feels deflated but she won't give up.

Lalaine tells Daisha about the death of her baby. Daisha doesn't understand why she wasn't told before and Lalaine explains that she didn't want to upset Daisha any more. Daisha decides to let Lalaine take baby Joe home for a few months.

Michael meets with Connie who tells him that he needs to start being realistic and to prepare Annalese for the possibility of losing her job. Michael won't give up but Connie explains that Harrison has now agreed to take a job as a legal representative on the board and will no longer will be representing Annalese. Michael cannot believe this and Connie explains that Harrison is only in it for the money. Michael doesn't believe Connie and knows that she has had something to do with this.

Maddy is still desperate to impress Ric. She figures out what is wrong with the patient and informs Ric who is slightly impressed and lets Maddy perform the procedure.  Maddy is a little shaky on her feet with  lack of food and rest.  But she perseveres.  It's an extended operation and Ric asks if she's okay? She says she is fine, determined to finish and when the operation hits complications, Maddy's knowledge of the condition and her surgical skills really impressive. Ric and Maddy pull the patient through and they make a good team.  Maddy is happy and Ric leaves her to close the patient.  Maddy takes this as evidence that Ric is changing his opinion of her.

Michael heads home. How can he tell Annalese that she is facing the sack and having her reputation ruined? Annalese is waiting for news but Michael cannot face telling her what is going to happen. Michael explains that will have to continue the fight.

At the post-op debrief Ric asks Maddy how she thought the operation went. Maddy is expecting praise but instead he is harsh. He nit-picks at everything Maddy has done today and he is obviously taking out his frustration at Tom on Maddy.  He explains that he wants to see great improvements in her work or she will be out of the door.
