The 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations have this week been revealed, with Game of Thrones taking a huge 24 nominations across the board, and American Horror Story: Freak Show just behind it with 19 nominations of its own.

Game of Thrones was close to setting a new record, but NYPD Blue's 27 nominations in 1994 means that it will remain as the most nominated drama series in a single year.

It's also a huge year for Olive Kitteridge which has taken 13 nominations, Bessie with 12, whilst House of Cards, Mad Men and Transparent (this year's most nominated comedy series) all took 11 each.

Though Transparent sits on Amazon, it was streaming service Netflix which managed to outdo its competitor with total number of nominations, with both House of Cards and Orange is the New Black amongst the shows earning it 34 nominations against Amazon's 12.

This year's most popular network with Emmy voters turned out to be ABC with a total of 42 nominations, just beating out CBS and NBC who both sit on 41. FOX fell shy at 35 and The CW only managed to take two nods.

Shockingly, this year will also be the first in which two black women could win the Emmy for lead actress in a drama series, with both Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson - for their roles in How To Get Away With Murder and Empire respectively - up for the accolade. How does the saying go, 'better late than never'?

In fact aside from Kerry Washington's 2013 nomination for Scandal, this is the first time a black woman has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series since Cicely Tyson's nomination in 1995 - a woman who is now again nominated this year for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her role in How To Get Away With Murder!

Unfortunately no black, female nominees in the category have won in the past, so this year that needs to all change. These women are of a different caliber when it comes to talent and that needs to be rewarded.
