NOTE: Spoilers for Game of Thrones s5e8.

Game of Thrones fans will be happy to know that there's a brand new featurette online showing off just how 'The Massacre at Hardhome' scene was achieved in the latest eighth episode of GoT season five.

220 extras were brought in and taught to sword fight for the incredible mass-scale scenes, with Kit Harington saying that they were some of his favourite people to work with because of how much effort they put into the sequence.

D.B. Weiss said that initially "the scene was written even bigger than it was", and so the point of view of the scene was reigned in to keep viewers behind the barricaded wall.

Efforts were also made to turn this into more of a horror sequence than battle, and a lot of the set was actually built rather than using green screen.

Game of Thrones season 5 continues next week on HBO in America and Sky Atlantic in the UK.
