Emmerdale’s going to have one heck of a 40th birthday bash.

Not only is the anniversary episode going to be the first ever live edition of the soap, but it will also see one of the village’s most loved characters meet their end.

Along with the death, two new babies and two weddings are planned for October’s 40th anniversary episode.

While the soaps bosses are keeping tight lipped about what’s going to happen to whom, the series producer Stuart Blackburn said: “In our spectacular live episode viewers will be taken on a whirlwind journey encompassing every life experience from the two cradles to the grave with love, hate and betrayal along the way.

“We want to avoid speculation as to which character dies but suffice to say it will have major, far-reaching repercussions.”

With Bafta winner Tony Prescott, who directed the infamous live ‘Tram Crash’ episode of Coronation Street of 2010, in the director’s chair for the episode the likelihood of a quiet, peaceful day are near on none.
