Joss Whedon

Joss Whedon

After it was announced that Avengers director Joss Whedon was set to head the development of a spin off TV show called S.H.I.E.L.D., the nerdy side of the internet has been abuzz with what heroes might be featured out of the Marvel comics, or who Joss will cast in the show.

Well, talking last month to MTV, Whedon came out and said that the show would feature new characters, telling Josh Horowitz that “It needs to be its own thing” before going on to say that the show “Needs to be adjacent” to the films.

Now though, more details have come out about S.H.I.E.L.D’s new characters, with a casting call being put out for some o the show’s leads. And, lucky for you, we’ve got them right below for you;

Skye – This late-20s woman sounds like a dream: fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.

Agent Grant Ward –  Quite the physical specimen and “cool under fire,” he sometimes botches interpersonal relations. He’s a quiet one with a bit of a temper, but he’s the kind of guy that grows on you.

Agent Althea Rice –  Also known as “The Calvary,” this hard-core soldier has crazy skills when it comes to weapons and being a pilot. But her experiences have left her very quiet and a little damaged.

Agent Leo Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons – These two came through training together and still choose to spend most of their time in each other’s company. Their sibling-like relationship is reinforced by their shared nerd tendencies – she deals with biology and chemistry, he’s a whiz at the technical side of weaponry.

So, with that new information, it looks like S.H.I.E.L.D. will have all the hallmarks of a great Joss Whedon show. A couple of strong, smart female leads, a rather large fellow and someone to bring out the geekiest of references are absolute mainstays of Joss Whedon’s TV career so far.

While there’s no news as to whom the frontrunners might be for the roles, taking a punt on a few of Joss’ old cast members coming back would be a rather safe one, as he’s never made a show after Buffy where he didn’t bring over at least one previous colleague.
