Wonder Woman In Animated Form

Wonder Woman is looking to start up on televsion once again, with casting calls being made once again for a new show based on the famous comic books.

With US network The CW now wanting to have a crack at the superhero, after their series Arrow proved a hit with audiences, they’ve put out a character brief for how they want their new Wonder Woman to be.

The new show will see our lead called Iris (instead of the traditional Diana) and will see her as a young woman who “has spent most of her life as a soldier and a leader on the battlefield. Because of relentless brutality of her life at home, Iris looks at our world with absolute awe and astonishment.”

The brief goes on to say that “Iris is completely unschooled in our world, our culture, our customs. And she’s completely inexperienced at interpersonal relationships. She has no social filter, does not suffer fools, and tends to do and say exactly what’s on her mind at all times.

"She’s bluntly, refreshingly honest. She can tell when you’re lying to her. And she doesn’t have time or patience for politics or tact because she’s too busy trying to experience everything our world has to offer.”

It concludes by calling her “a fierce warrior with the innocent heart of a romantic and she will fight to the death to make the world safe for innocents and true romantics everywhere.”

Needless to say, the die-hard fans of the comics are not going to be best pleased, as the show’s description of our leading lady is more than a little different to the one fans have known for over sixty years.

Linda Carter though is far more welcoming of The CW’s attempts to bring Wonder Woman once again to the small screen, with the actress who first played the super hero back in the 1970s saying “I am delighted to hear this news.

"Wonder Woman is a fantastic, inspirational character who should be introduced to a new generation. I wish them great luck and look forward to seeing it on air."

This isn’t the first Wonder Woman TV show to have come along in the last couple of years, after Ally McBeal and Boston Legal creator had a disastrous stab at the heroine last year, a venture that didn’t even make it past the pilot episode after the show tried to transform her into a corporate boss who moped at night about her relationship status.

Not the most exciting superhero drama right?

While still very much in the planning stages, the full script is still being written, The CW’s Wonder Woman project sounds far more encouraging.
