'X Factor' wannabe Abi Alton was rushed to hospital last night (20.10.13).

The 19-year-old hopeful was strapped onto a stretcher in a neck support after she fell down a flight of stairs backstage and injured her back following the Sunday night results show.

'The Xtra Factor' host Caroline Flack explained to viewers what had happened and why Abi was missing from the spin-off show.

She said: "She has actually hurt her back so she has gone to have her back checked. She is absolutely fine. I think she's going to be OK."

A source told MailOnline: "Abi was accompanied to the hospital by her family, after medics assessed her and decided to take her to hospital as a precautionary measure."

Abi was later discharged from hospital and took to Twitter to thank her fans for their support and reassure them she didn't suffer any "serious damage" as a result of her tumble.

She wrote: "out of hospital and thankfully there is no serious damage. Thanks for your lovely messages, im sure will be right as rain in no time xxx (sic)"

The brunette beauty has drawn comparisons to the likes of Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves since wowing in her first 'X Factor' audition with a cover of the Dixie Chicks' hit 'Travelling Soldier', but she failed to impress all of the judges following her rendition of Kylie Minogue's 'Can't Get You Outta My Head' on Saturday night (19.10.13).

Both Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh predicted she might be up for the axe alongside Kingsland Road, who were guaranteed to be up for the chop last night after they receiving the lowest votes on Saturday night's show, but van driver Shelley Smith ended up in the sing-off.

The blonde wannabe sang Sam Brown's 'Stop!' for survival but it wasn't enough and she was sent home after Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis opted to save Kingsland Road instead.
