Aidan is to star as famed artist Leonardo da Vinci in the new series for Amazon Prime Video, alongside Highmore, Giancarlo Giannini, Matilda De Angelis, Carlos Cuevas and James D’Arcy and he will have a key part in 'Leonardo: The Official Podcast', which will go behind-the-scenes of the drama.

Turner and Highmore, who plays Stefano Giraldi, will join presenter Angellica Bell for the first episode of the eight-part podcast, which will coincide with the launch of the programme on the streaming service.

Other cast and crew members will appear on later episodes of the podcast.

Meanwhile, speaking previously about taking on the role of da Vinci - who is known for a multitude of work including the Mona Lisa - Aidan said: "As we know, Leonardo da Vinci was a man who created an incredible body of work across so many disciplines. As an actor, to explore the inner workings of this great artist was a very exciting and humbling experience and I feel so fortunate to have worked with such a great team in Rome to make this series happen."

Martin Backlund, Head of Content at UK Prime Video, added: "Leonardo is a beautiful drama that tells a riveting backstory of one of the most fascinating artistic figures in history.

"I know our customers will be absorbed from the first episode and we can’t wait to see Aidan Turner back on our screens exclusively to Prime Members in the UK and Ireland."

Giancarlo Giannini will play Leonardo's master, Andrea del Verrocchio, whilst Matilda De Angelis will play da Vinci's friend Caterina da Cremona. Carlos Cuevas plays Salaì, the apprentice of Leonardo, and James D'Arcy will star as Ludovico Sforza. Frank Spotnitz and Steve Thompson created the series, which has been directed by Dan Percival and Alexis Sweet.
