'Strictly Come Dancing' star Alison Hammond tried to use a gastric band to lose weight but her body "rejected it".

The bubbly television personality is currently competing on BBC One's 'Strictly Come Dancing' and has revealed that she once tried using a gastric band after watching the former 'This Morning' presenter Fern Britton lose weight after having the same procedure.

'Strictly Come Dancing' star Alison Hammond tried to use a gastric band to lose weight but her body "rejected it".

She shared: "I was offered a gastric band around the time Fern was and tried it because Ii wanted to lose weight. I didn't have a trigger to say I was full up, which is why I had it. But my body started rejecting it. I began to grow scar tissue around it.

After having it removed, Alison said "The doctor said, 'Normally it takes 15 minutes to remove a gastric band but yours took three hours because of all the scar tissue."

The 39-year-old star - who was paired with professional dancer Aljaž Skorjanec, 24, on BBC One show - now refers to herself as "fit fat" since taking part in the rigorous dance routines.

Alison said: "I'm a fit fat.

"I've got a cholesterol of 3.2 and my blood pressure is good so my stats are like an athlete."

The star - who has a nine-year-old son - admitted that she will "never" be able to slim her size 26 body to size ten.

She said: "Alison Hammond is never going to be a size ten. It's not going to happen."
