The former 'Gavin & Stacey' star - who played Gavin's mum Pamela Shipman on the hit sitcom - will play board member Anita in the upcoming four-part BBC One thriller about sexual politics in the modern workplace.

She'll be joined by the likes of 'Sex Education' star Rakhee Thakrar as new HR director Maya, and Susan Wokoma as DI Even Preston, while Kieran Bew, Ben Batt, Callie Cooke, Katherine Pearce and Zoe Tapper have all been confirmed.

Maxine Peake - who will star as manager Sam - said: "What a glorious cast. Working alongside my fellow sisters each day, with their commitment and understanding towards Ruth Fowler’s script about sexual politics in the workplace, with Jennifer Sheridan directing, has reminded me once again why we need to keep fighting for more women to have a voice in the filmmaking process.”

And Rakhee added: "It's been pure joy working with this cast, who all bring such authenticity, heart and humour to any scene. Maxine Peake in particular has been an absolute highlight as our lead.”

Filming on the show has finished in the North West of England, and the series will see Sam - who's at the head of a family-run business - arrive at work to discover a dead body in the office reception.

She then had to deal with both the murky behaviour in the present, as well as "murderous secrets from the past".

The drama has been written by Ruth Fowler, with Jennifer Sheridan at the helm directing all four episodes.

'Rules of the Game' is set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2022.
