Following on from the news that American Gods would be starting in the US on April 30 (on Starz), its UK home of Amazon Prime Video have revealed that the series would kick off on this side of the pond just one day later, on May 1.

Adapted from the award-winning fantasy novel by Neil Gaiman, the series is led by Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane and Emily Browning, and also stars Gillian Anderson, Pablo Schreiber, Yetide Badaki, Kristin Chenoweth and more.

Each week a new episode will come to the streaming platform, as viewers get to see the brewing war between the Old Gods and the New take place.

With the traditional Old Gods following their mythological roots around the world, they’re fading into irrelevance as former believers are converted by the New Gods and their offers of celebrity, money and technology.

Whittle stars as series lead Shadow Moon, an ex-con who’s recruited by a mysterious man known only as Mr. Wednesday (McShane). Browning is Shadow’s wife, Laura Moon, but tragedy strikes and Shadow is sent on a cross country mission.

Having recently read American Gods, I can personally vouch for it being one of the most gripping and infectious stories I’ve ever read. Gaiman is a real master of words and so we can only hope that this translates onto the small screen. With his continued involvement in the TV series, surely the show will be a major success.

See American Gods weekly, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video from May 1.
