Whether you’re a fan of the new Sex and The City spinoff And Just Like That or, you think it’s an unnecessary milking of the franchise’s cash cow, you’ve probably wondered whether or not the series might ever see the return of original star Kim Cattrall, as fan-favourite character Samantha.

After a very public spat between Cattrall and fellow SATC star, Sarah Jessica Parker, audiences correctly assumed Samantha Jones wouldn't be making an appearance in the new release.

Of course, there will always be speculation about whether or not those problems could be put aside to serve the series and its narrative better.

Unfortunately, Samantha fans won’t ever be seeing her in And Just Like That, according to series writer Michael Patrick King, who took swipes at Cattrall’s character in a recent interview with Variety.

Asked if she could appear in the future, he replied: “No. Just like there was no thought that Kim would ever participate in And Just Like That, because she’s said what she had said. The only place I participate in magical thinking is in fiction. You take people at their word, and you’re a smart producer — you don’t back yourself into a corner. Magically thinking, it’s great to have Samantha. I have no realistic expectation of Kim Cattrall ever appearing again.”

After what many thought was a disappointing season, there’s no news just yet on whether or not And Just Like That will even make it to air for a second outing.

Writers seemed to be clamouring in every direction for an ounce of interesting story to tell, but it may just be that this wishing well has completely dried up, and is better left to cement its legacy through its back-catalogue, rather than continuing to beat a dead horse.
