The presenting duo appeared on the show to celebrate Holly and Phillip's 10th anniversary of presenting the show together, where Ant and Dec launched a takeover for the last 45 minutes of the show.

Walking on to the set, they shouted: "Stop this nonsense!... You're probably wondering why we've gatecrashed your lovely This Morning makeover?"

A shocked Holly replied: "What are you doing?... You're supposed to be on the VT! Oh my God!"

And Dec said: "You don't need your scripts for the rest of the morning, because we are in charge. Phil & Holly, This Is Your Anniversary!"

Contributors including Vanessa Feltz, Dr. Ranj, Deidre, The Speakmans and Kem Cetinay all appeared in the studios for the celebrations with Phil and Holly admitting that the last 10 years had flown by.

Holly said: "It's funny, because I started when [her son] Harry was born and I came straight to work pretty much, and I know he's turned 10 now but it doesn't feel like it's been 10 years."

Phil added: "It's gone very quickly. I think probably because it's so much fun. We do lots of serious things, but we have lots of fun. Like you guys [Ant & Dec], it's working with your best mate."

Ant and Dec then showcased some of Phil and Holly's Best Bits from the past 10 years including the guest with a collection of adult blow-up dolls, the female watermelon crusher and the penis painter, Australian Tim Patch, who painted a portrait of Phil & Holly. It was also revealed that 'This Morning' had commissioned Tim to penis paint another portrait of the duo to celebrate the 10th anniversary, but the painted had been impounded by Customs at Heathrow airport.

Actress Miriam Margolyes joined live from Australia via live satellite link and said: "I'd like to say thank you and bless you and I hope you keep going. Gather the energies once again, because it's remarkable what you're doing you know. I mean you all sounded completely bonkers just then. I couldn't quite make out what was happening, there seemed to be a penis lying around! But whoever it belonged to, all the best.

"Well, they're such darlings and they seem to genuinely be interested in everyone that they meet and that's quite rare. Coming on the show is gorgeous, because they treat you well and they're sweet and I love coming on. But when I watch it I'm always impressed."

Ant & Dec also spoke of some of the charity campaigns spearheaded by Phil and Holly, namely their Project 84 campaign in partnership with CALM, which saved over 200 men from committing suicude, and their #BeKind anti-bullying campaign.

Simon Gunning, CEO of CALM said of the campaign: "It made a real tangible difference straight away. We changed Government, we had a minister appointed. It gave hope to thousands of people who otherwise wouldn't have had it... The use of our helpline has doubled, you've done an amazing thing."

The celebrations ended by welcoming the children with Downs Syndrome from the Wouldn't Change a Thing charity, alongside their parents and carers, who closed the show with a signed performance of 'You've Got A Friend in Me.'

'This Morning' airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
