The 42-year-old TV presenter appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates Court earlier today (16.04.18), where he was found to be more than twice the legal limit when he crashed his Mini into two cars in Richmond, south west London, on March 18, leaving a four-year-old girl in hospital.

According to the Mail Online, Ant spoke to confirm his name, date of birth, address and nationality.

He said he was "ashamed and mortified" following the incident.

A statement read by his barrister said: "I appreciate people in the public eye should provide a positive example. I know the consequences [of the crash] could have been much worse."

Ant was found to have 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath, more than double the legal limit of 35.

The TV presenter was surrounded by seven police officers today as he made his way into the court room.

He was charged last month following the incident and later entered rehab, pulling out of his TV commitments, including co-hosting 'Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway' with his pal Declan Donnelly.

Ant was expected to plead guilty so he could continue his rehab treatment.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "His legal team got the court date delayed once because he had just entered rehab.

"But he knows he has to face the music. The plan at this stage is for him to plead guilty. He is obviously gutted about the whole thing and wants to focus on getting better.

"He has a lot to do to prove himself again. Hopefully this is the first step."

Amaira Dandekar, four, was in one of the cars the 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' host crashed into, and was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Ant's mother Christine was in the passenger seat of his car at the time of the collision.

The star previously had his case delayed for two weeks so that he could enter a rehab facility.

The court said in a statement at the time: "An adjournment in this case has been agreed. Ant McPartlin will not be appearing at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. He will appear in court on Monday April 16."

Dec fronted the final two episodes of 'Saturday Night Takeaway' alone after Ant took a step back from his TV duties, and the 42-year-old star will do the same for the live finals of 'Britain's Got Talent' later this year.

Ant underwent treatment for prescription drug and alcohol addiction last summer.
