The prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's iconic 1960 adaptation of Psycho returns for its fourth season next month in the US, with 10 all-new episodes continuing to follow the story of Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and his doomed mother Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga).

In the new episodes, we'll see Norma seek professional help for her son, but the family will be torn apart by the kind act, driving an even larger wedge between the already-fractured relationships.

ScreenCrush this weekend debuted new pictures from the season four premiere, titled A Danger to Himself and Others, showing Norman and his mother wearing the same robes as the youngster makes his slow transition into further madness and his 'mother' persona, becoming a representation of what he sees in the family matriarch.

Emma Decody (Olivia Cooke) is also seen in the pictures, in the hospital following the dramatic events of last season where she was told a transplant donor had finally been found for her, potentially saving her life.

The official synopsis for the new season says: ""Bates Motel," a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film Psycho, will return with ten new episodes that further reveal Norman's continued downward spiral and the effect it has on the family. This season Norma becomes increasingly fearful and desperate, going to great lengths to find Norman the professional help he needs. This further complicates their once unbreakable trust while Norman struggles to maintain his grip on reality. Sheriff Romero (Nestor Carbonell) once again finds himself drawn back into Norma and Norman's lives. Will things finally heat up between Norma and the other man in her life, Sheriff Romero, and just how much further will he go to protect her?"

Renewed up until at least season five, we're slowly but surely moving closer to seeing Norman's big reveal and give-in to chaos.

Bates Motel returns to A&E in the US on March 7 at 9/8c.
