After the show proved to be the UK's most successful new drama launch of the year so far, audiences will be delighted to get a festive episode that will see Kris Marshall back as DI Humphrey Goodman, joined by series regulars Sally Bretton (Martha Lloyd), Zahra Ahmadi as DI Esther Williams, Dylan Llewellyn (PC Kelby Hartford), Barbara Flynn (Anne Lloyd) and Felicity Montagu (Margo Martins).

In addition, Isaac Vincent-Norgate Sheila Reid and Bellowhead will also have parts to play, and there's more familiar faces for viewers as Chris Jenks also returns to play Josh Woods, with Jade Harrison as CS Charlie Woods and Eva Feiler as Lucy.

The episode will see Humphrey and his team left baffled by a series of bizarre burglaries in Shipton Abbott in the run-up to Christmas. But when they make a breakthrough with an unexpected connection, a bittersweet discovery makes them reconsider the meaning of the holiday.

And over at the station, Kelby is left babysitting a young shoplifter, while Charlie continues to question while their police station should remain open.

Kris previously admitted he was "beyond excited" to be returning to the 'Death in Paradise' spin-off again after the festive special and season two were announced.

He said in a statement: "I'm beyond excited to have begun filming the second series of Beyond Paradise. 'Shipton Abbott' is such a wonderful location to call home for a while and it's a delight to join up with my fellow police team for another batch of weird and wonderful cases, and to see what's in store for Humphrey and Martha in the next chapter of their lives.”

And BBC executives teased things are "only just getting started" for the show.

Danielle Scott-Haughton, Commissioning Editor for BBC Drama said: “The huge success of 'Beyond Paradise’s first series was a joy to see, and the new run of episodes has everything that made so many of us fall in love with it - and a whole lot more. Humphrey, Martha and the residents of Shipton Abbott really were only just getting started!”

The Christmas special will air over the 2023 festive season, while series two, which will be formed of six episodes, will be released in 2024.
