The 60-year-old TV presenter - who has hosted 'The Chase' for more than a decade - accidentally said "f****** hell" in frustration as he fluffed his lines while recording the show's Christmas special.

Bradley - who has followed in the footsteps of Terry Wogan and Les Dawson by hosting the show - said during filming: "We can’t get anyone back. The other presenters are all f****** dead."

According to The Sun newspaper, Stuart Holdham, the show's warm-up act, was forced to apologise "on behalf of the BBC" for Bradley's expletive-laden debut on the programme, which was previously revived by Paul O'Grady, in the guise of Lily Savage.

This comes after Anne Hegerty previously admitted Bradley is integral to the success of 'The Chase'.

The TV  star - who is also known as The Governess - struggles to imagine the ITV show flourishing without its long-time host.

She said: "I think it will keep going, in particular as long as Bradley wants to keep doing it and he does want to keep doing it."

Asked if the programme could be successful without Bradley, she replied: "We don't want to think about it."

Jenny Ryan - who is known as The Vixen - also believes Bradley is a fundamental part of 'The Chase's success, admitting he strikes a "lovely" balance between his support for the contestants and his admiration for the Chasers.

She said: "It's too hard to think about. He really does make the show because of his relationship with us and the contestants.

"He loves us dearly but he wants the contestants to win, so that kind of balance is really lovely."
