'X Factor' hopefuls Josh and Kyle Brooks insist they have a "strong connection" with their parents.

The 17-year-old twins have been raised by their grandmother since they were 18-months-old because their mother Samantha and father Daniel Gibbs are heroin addicts, but they are still close to them and would love them come down to the show and see them perform, if they progress further in the competition.

Kyle said: "It's not as if I'd call up my mum and say, 'Mum, I need advice'. It would be Nan. But we speak regularly."

Josh added to The Sun newspaper: "We have a strong connection - we'd love them to come to the studios. We keep in contact and love them dearly.

"They're very supportive of everything we do. They come to shows and listen to our music."

The pair are very close to Samantha's mother Colette, who is their legal guardian and their "rock".

Kyle said: "Our parents were unable to look after us. Our Nan is the rock in our lives. We speak to our parents regularly, but don't have much of a relationship.

"Nan has always been a mum to us."

The teenage hopefuls made it through to judges' house on 'The X Factor' in 2014, before failing to make Louis Walsh's shortlist, and though bosses were aware of their background, they didn't want to seem like they were using a sob story to find favour with the audience.

Josh said: "It became clear then why we don't live with our parents. We didn't want to come across like we're without parents - it's just always been Nan."

Auditions broadcast over the weekend showed the twins got four yeses and have sailed through to the bootcamp stage of the show.
