Charlotte Church has revealed she rejected a judging role on 'The X Factor'.

The 27-year-old singer insists she would prefer to poke her "eyes out with sticks" than join the panel of the ITV talent show because she claims it is destroying the music industry, so she "politely declined" the position.

She wrote on Twitter: "I got asked to do the X factor job. I'd rather poke my eyes out with sticks than be a part of the machine that kills music.

"I had a meeting to ask about the level of involvement in the creative process I could have, and they basically said none....

"unless it was inline with what was required. I wanted to see just how hard line it was. I found my answer and politely declined. (sic)"

Meanwhile, Louis Walsh - who is the only panellist to have been on the show since it began in 2004 - recently confirmed that the tenth series - which airs later this month - will be his last as he is stepping down as a judge in order to return to his day job of managing music acts.

Louis will appear alongside Sharon Osbourne, Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger on this year's judging panel, but rumours have emerged suggesting that the other three stars will follow in his footsteps and quit the programme after this series.
