Claudia Winkleman

Claudia Winkleman is to front the first ever Comic Relief Danceathon, it has been revealed.

The Strictly Come Dancing co-host is now calling on Britain to get involved and take part in the six hour non-stop dance extravaganza to raise money for Red Nose Day next year.

She said: "This just might be the greatest day of our lives. Wherever you live in the UK, if you like dancing, we'd love you to take part in the Comic Relief Danceathon. I am ridiculously excited."

Joining the host will be stars including Chelsee Healey, Arlene Phillips, Rufus Hound, Zoe Ball and Kimberly Wyatt.

Over 2,000 fundraisers are to dance non-stop for six hours in the Danceathon, with the style and teacher changing every 30 minutes so themes can be switched between 50s jive, 60s swing, 70s disco, 80s anthems, street dance, latin, hip-hop, Bollywood and West End Musicals.

Claudia will host the event at London's Wembley arena, and those interested in getting involved can join in locations across the country, even being allowed to set up their own Danceathon in village halls, sports clubs or gyms.

The plans are to get the nation dancing between 12pm and 6pm on March 8, with all money raised spent by Comic Relief in the UK and across Africa to help out vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
