Dame Barbara Windsor once forced June Brown to apologise to 'EastEnders' writers after she branded a storyline s***.

The late actress - who passed away earlier this month at the age of 83 after a long battle with Alzheimer's - was just as fiery behind the scenes as her character Peggy Mitchell was onscreen, according to former 'EastEnders' boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins, and she kept cast and crew in check.

He told Radio Times: "Barbara was the best executive producer 'EastEnders' never had. She was so sharp, she knew the audience, and kept actors young and old in check.

"Once, June Brown shouted at us from her dressing room window, 'Your storylines are s***.' Barbara grabbed her, brought her upstairs and told her to apologise."

And Dominic, 43, revealed he didn't escape Barbara's wrath, as she reprimanded him for kissing 'EastEnders' actress Rita Simons at an awards bash.

He explained: "She said, 'You're a producer – you should be getting them in the car, not getting off with them. And anyway, you're one of them, you're gay'."

When Dominic was promoted to executive producer in 2013, Barbara told him: "Right, toughen up and put on a proper shirt – you're the guv'nor now."

Barbara's death earlier this month was announced by her husband Scott Mitchell, who said in a statement: "'Her passing was from Alzheimer's/Dementia and Barbara eventually died peacefully and I spent the last seven days by her side.

"Myself, her family and friends will remember Barbara with love, a smile and affection for the many years of her love, fun, friendship and brightness she brought to all our lives and the entertainment she gave to so many thousands of others during her career.

"It was not the ending that Barbara or anyone else living with this very cruel disease deserve.

"I will always be immensely proud of Barbara's courage, dignity and generosity dealing with her own illness and still trying to help others by raising awareness for as long as she could.

"May you rest in peace now my precious Bar. I've lost my wife, my best friend and soul mate and my heart or life will never feel the same without you."
