The actors started filming the comedy during the COVID-19 pandemic playing versions of themselves trying to organise a stage show over Zoom calls during 2020 - but now the 'Doctor Who' star has confirmed it's time to bring the BBC One series to a close because it no longer reflects the world we live in.

Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Tennant explained: "We’ve had a wonderful time filming the series but have no plans to do more. It was a show borne out of a particular period of time – lockdown – when we were all in our houses communicating via Zoom, as our characters did in the show.

"We couldn’t get out. Now, as the characters demonstrate in some of the scenes in the new series, we can."

The show also featured appearances from Tennant's wife Georgia and Sheen's partner Anna Lundberg as well as writer/director Simon Evans and it also featured cameos from Hollywood stars including Samuel L. Jackson, Dame Judi Dench, Whoopi Goldberg, Ewan McGregor, and Cate Blanchett.

The first series aired in the summer of 2020 and it was followed by a second the next year as well as a Christmas special.

The third series was released on streaming service BritBox in 2022.

Michael previously told the BBC the show was a hit because the actors poked fun at themselves. He said: "We didn't take ourselves too seriously and made fun of ourselves - I think people enjoyed that. I'm using the sort of format and medium that everyone is using. Having to do calls on Zoom and all that kind of stuff - so we've been able to tap into what's funny and absurd about that as well. Also, having lovely surprises like Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson, we have lots more of those surprises in this new series."
