The 43-year-old star has revealed he is penning a new series, ten years after the end of his hit show 'Little Britain' which he wrote and starred in with fellow comedian Matt Lucas.

However, fans of David's sitcom 'Big School' will be left disappointed as the new project means he won't have time to write a third series with his co-creators Catherine Tate and Philip Glenister.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "The BBC asked for a third series, but I asked to do a new sketch show instead, and they agreed."

The BBC confirmed the 'Britain's Got Talent' judge's jam-packed schedule has led to the end of the series but promised "several new projects" with David at the helm.

A spokesperson said: "Writing and filming a series like 'Big School' takes up a huge amount of time and with David's schedule being absolutely jam-packed, after two successful series the show won't be coming back to BBC1.We are working on several new projects with David."

Later this month David - who parted ways with his model wife Lara Stone earlier this year - will also be appearing in the BBC One Agatha Christie drama 'Partners In Crime'.
