Denise Black

Denise Black is joining 'Emmerdale'.

The 55-year-old actress - who played former hairdresser Denise Osbourne in 'Coronation Street' - will arrive in the Dales in August as "warm and loving" Joanie, the adoptive grandmother of Amy Wyatt's son Kyle.

Viewers will see Amy (Chelsea Halfpenny) trying to make contact with Kyle - who she had with bad boy Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) - after she put him up for adoption two years ago, but finds herself developing a close bond with Joanie after learning of the life she's provided Kyle since he came under her care.

Denise said: "Joanie's a character I've never played before. My first grandma! Dear lord, that came round quick! She is going to get some very tasty stories, so I'm really looking forward to it. I already know quite a few of the cast and I met Lesley Dunlop on my first day who said, 'You'll love it here, it's a lovely job.'

"The casting came through on my birthday so there we go, what a present. I can't believe my luck."

'Emmerdale' producer Kate Oates, added: "Her story will see her playing against some of our best-loved characters, and I know an actress of her calibre will be a fabulous asset to the show."
