Eamonn Holmes has announced he is joining GB News to front a fresh show

The 62-year-old TV presenter has confirmed he is leaving ITV programme 'This Morning' - which he has co-hosted with his wife Ruth Langsford, 61, for 15 years - and is now looking forward to taking up a role on the "exciting" news channel on which he will front a brand new current affairs show.

He said: "I’ve spent my career on broadcasting firsts and start-ups, and GB News is one of the most exciting yet. It’s just the kind of shake-up the industry needs."

The journalist went on to claim that has "admired" the news channel since it first launched back in June 2021 and it will be an "honour" to take on a presenting role.

He added: "I’ve admired GB News from the beginning for its clever mix of punchy debate but delivered with warmth and even some fun.

"To me, the greatest honour in journalism is to give a voice and respect to the unheard, and that’s exactly what GB News is all about.”

Former Sky News anchor Eamonn also posted a message to his 1 million Twitter followers announcing his new role and urging them to tune in.

He tweeted: "Here is The News ..... I'm joining @GBNEWS from The New Year . Hope you are coming with me and wish me well . In the meantime Compliments of The Season to you and thanks for your support folks."

ITV responded to the news by wishing Eamonn all the best in his new venture and confirmed that Ruth - who has anchored 'Loose Women' for almost a decade - will remain as part of their Daytime team.

A spokesperson said: "We would like to wish Eamonn all of the very best in his new role. As a duo, Eamonn and Ruth have been part of the 'This Morning' presenting team for the last 15 years and we thank Eamonn for all of his hard work and contribution to the show. Ruth remains an important part of ITV Daytime both as a continuing member of the 'This Morning' family and as an anchor presenter on 'Loose Women'."

Eamonn's exit comes a year after he and Ruth - who used to present the show on Fridays in place of permanent hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby - were replaced by Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond, with the pair only filling in during the school holidays.
