19-year-old Christian Burrows from Bolton was praised by the panel of Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Sharon Osbourne and Nicole Scherzinger, after he sang the moving tribute.

Simon called him "very brave", while Sharon added: "It has a great charm to it."

Saturday's (27.08.16) season premiere saw the return of Sharon, Louis and Nicole, who reunited with Simon.

The trio ganged up on Simon, with Louis exclaiming: "Do I hear high heels? It's either Michael Flatley or Simon's here" and Nicole said: "It's very rewarding, there's power in numbers. We loved ganging up on Simon."

However, she added: "We have to be careful or we might get fired."

And they were happy to poke fun at each other too, with Louis and Nicole examining an old picture of Sharon and the feisty judge exclaiming, "Let me see how many facelifts ago that was."

Other contestants who impressed included Caitlyn Vanbeck, Ryan Lawrie and boyband Yes Lad.

The show also saw the return of host Dermot O'Leary, who was replaced by Olly Murs and Caroline Flack last year.
