Game of Thrones season 7 will be coming a little later than expected, it's been revealed, as showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are waiting for the perfect weather to shoot their scenes.

Filming on location in several European spots, the pair explained on the UFC Unfiltered podcast: "We don't have an air date yet, but this year will probably be a bit later... We're starting a bit later because, you know, the end of this season, winter is here, and that means sunny weather doesn't serve our purposes anymore, so we pushed everything down the line to get some grim, grey weather, even in the sunnier places we shoot."

The pair also confirmed that there are just two seasons left in the series, which will be made up of fewer episodes than usual, and they both know exactly where they're headed and how the series will conclude.

Season 6 of the epic fantasy series ended with Daenerys Targaryen and her impressive fleet finally headed for Westeros, with the Mother of Dragons picking up support not only from Tyrion Lannister and Varys, but the Martell and Tyrell houses.

Cersei Lannister currently sits on the Iron Throne after the death of her final child, Tommen, but how long she'll remain there is anybody's guess...

Game of Thrones will return for its seventh season at some point in 2017 on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
