George Gilbey has been laid to rest

The former 'Gogglebox' star passed away last month aged 40, and his funeral took place on Thursday (25.04.24) at Weeley Crematorium, near his hometown of Clacton in Essex.

A GoFundMe account was set up to raise money for the service to give George the "send off he deserves", and more than £7,000 was donated.

Hundreds of family and friends gathered to pay their respects to the late electrician, who tragically passed away after he fell through a skylight at work last month.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "George has been laid to rest and his family have said their last goodbyes.

"It was a terribly sad day and devastating for everyone concerned, particularly his mother Linda who was in bits.

"George also has a daughter and it was terrible for her as well as his ex-partner.

"He has gone far too soon, but despite everything people tried their best to celebrate his life."

A picture of George on 'Gogglebox' alongside his mum Linda and his stepdad Pete McGarry - who passed away from bowel cancer aged 71 in 2021, days after he had been given six months to live - was placed alongside several other floral tributes to the star.

These included some claret and blue flowers, in a nod to George's favourite football team, West Ham United.

On Monday (22.04.24), an inquest was told George died from traumatic head and torso injuries following a fall at work.

He was working on a roof in Shoeburyness, Essex, on March 27th at the time.

The hearing was suspended following a request from the Essex Police, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.

Proceedings have been adjourned for four months as a result.

A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter relating to the star's passing, but he has since been released by police under investigation.

George first appeared in 'Gogglebox' in 2013's second series, but he left the show a year later to enter 'Celebrity Big Brother', on which he finished fourth.
