Ghost (1990)

'Ghost' is being transformed into a series for television.

The classic 1990 romantic drama starring the late Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore is to be adapted for the small screen by the TV production arm of Paramount.

Oscar-winning 'A Beautiful Mind' screenwriter Akiva Goldsman and Jeff Pinkner have been hired and will write the script for the pilot episode.

Paramount TV's president Amy Powell said in a statement: "We are thrilled to collaborate with Akiva and Jeff, two deeply creative and accomplished talents, on the television adaptation of this classic supernatural drama."

'Ghost' centred on Sam Wheat (Swayze), a murder victim who tries to avenge his death after turning into a ghost, while at the same time trying to resolve matters with his mourning fiancée Molly (Moore).

The film earned five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and won two awards - Best Supporting Actress for Whoopi Goldberg, who played psychic Oda Mae Brown, and Best Original Screenplay.

The movie was the highest grossing film of 1990, taking in over $500 million at the box office.

'Ghost' has already been successfully adapted into a stage musical for London's West End.
