Today (April 29) Netflix have revealed a brand new featurette for forthcoming original series Marseille, going behind-the-scenes of the show ahead of its debut on the streaming service next Thursday, May 5 at 00:01am CEST.

Featuring interviews from production and cast, the video gives a glimpse into the making of Marseille as well as its story and award-winning leads, Gérard Depardieu and Benoît Magimel.

The series also stars Géraldine Pailhas, Nadia Farés, Stéphane Caillard, Jean-René Privat, Guillaume Arnault, Hedi Bouchenafa, Carolina Jurczak and Nassim Si Ahmed.

A synopsis reads: "As the municipal elections approach in Marseille, Robert Taro, the city's Mayor for the last twenty years, prepares his last coup: push through the vote for the construction of a casino in the historic center of the Marina. Nothing has been left to chance, and his successor, Lucas Barrès, is already designated.

"But the latter's all-consuming ambition and the secret interests of the city's leaders, whether they come from its opulent villas or from the cities of the northern suburbs, impede the Mayor's plans. The race for Mayor becomes a power struggle where no holds are barred. Only one question arises: how far will they go?

"In the magnificent and hypnotic city that leaves no one indifferent, Marseille unleashes the greatest passions and inevitably the worst crimes."

Written by Dan Franck who also serves as creative producer alongside showrunner Florent Siri, the visual creator and director of episodes 1-4 and director of episodes 5-8, Thomas Gilou, all eight episodes premiere in all Netflix territories on May 5.
