The FOX network have got a lot of faith in DC series Gotham and have officially this week ordered a third season of the show, reporting that the series averages nine million viewers total across multiple platforms per episode.

A statement from FOX Entertainment President David Madden reads: "It takes a very special team to tell the tales of Gotham. For the past two seasons, Bruno [Heller], Danny [Cannon] and John [Stephens] have masterfully honoured the mythology of Gotham and brought it to life with depth, emotion and memorable high drama. This incredibly talented cast has redefined these iconic characters for a new generation, and we couldn't be more proud of this show."

Though the reimagining of mythology in Gotham hasn't always gone down well with the most hardcore of comic book fans, the show's success is undeniable and so viewers should expect that trend to continue as the episodes go by.

Villains brought to the small screen to-date include Penguin, The Riddler, Hugo Strange and many more, with a young Bruce Wayne also taking centre-stage at various points, but never overshadowing the overall ensemble.

Gotham season 2 continues Monday, March 21 at 8pm on FOX and airs on Channel 5 in the UK.
