The trainee anaesthetist, 29, is up against 40-year-old Ian Cumming and Nadiya Hussain, 30, in the final of the baking competition tonight (07.10.15), but his father Tarun has called for him to hang up his apron until he's completed the final five years of his training.

Tarun wrote on Facebook: "We are so pleased for Tamal.

"Hope he completes his hospital training first and puts baking in the back-burner."

Whether he wins or not, a flood of baking related job offers are likely to come in for Tamal when the show comes to and end, but his family are worried about him throwing away his education.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "That puts Tamal in a difficult position. Offers will be flooding in once the show ends, but those will definitely have a shelf-life.

"Tarun and Tamal's other relatives are incredibly supportive of what he's achieved on Bake Off.

"But his parents are mindful that he's put a lot of work into his career as an anaesthetist.

"They don't want that time and effort to be wasted."
