The programme was made by those behind BBC hit 'Traitors', Studio Lambert and Motion Content Group, and followed 16 ordinary British people "from all walks of life and ages" as they start the game as equals before finding themselves either as a Ruler or Grafter.

In a position of power, the Rulers lived "in an opulent penthouse", with the Grafters stuck in the basement.

The winner was chosen from the Rulers at the end of the series to win the prize pot of up to £100,000.

A Channel 4 spokesperson told The Sun: "Rise and Fall was a great show that we were very proud of and attracted strong audiences, but Channel 4 is all about the new and we want to make space for the next great new reality idea...

"We would like to thank Greg and the talented team who made such a hugely fun and innovative show."

'Radio 1 Breakfast Show' host Greg, 38, phoned 'Traitors' host Claudia Winkleman, 52, for her advice ahead of the series.

"I gave her a call, I know Claudia fairly well. She was on my show to talk about The Traitors not so long ago, and I said, can I have a call to chat about some secret stuff, so I did.

"I broke the non-disclosure agreement with Claudia Winkleman, but I thought she’s a Faithful, so I thought I’d be able to trust her. She was great, she gave great advice.

"She was like, 'You know what, just immerse yourself in this world, Just get in it basically,' and I have been. It’s been really, really fun. She just said to enjoy it because these shows are really fun to do."

Greg admitted being on this kind of show is "really intense" for the contestants.

He added: "I think being filmed 24 hours a day. It’s really intense for them. They’re having to perform, but also they’re having to become friends with people, strategize at the same time."
