The 56-year-old former footballer has come under fire after clashing several times with the comedian on the ITV reality show, but Nancy - who wed Ian in 2011 - has stepped in to defend her husband after he received some online backlash.

She told The Sun newspaper: "I don't know. I think everyone gets a bit tetchy after a while. I don't think it's anything particular between them. They're both quite strong characters."

And Nancy believes her husband is "doing well" in the jungle.

She added: "He has his moments but he's doing well. I can't wait to see him. It's been a long time not seeing him.

"I think he's doing brilliantly. Lots of challenges but he's doing really well."

The 'Match of the Day' pundit had a little treat earlier this week when Caitlyn Jenner smuggled food into camp for him.

The 70-year-old reality star was seen taking a corn on the cob back to main camp for Ian, after he, Cliff Parisi and Andy Whyment were forced to miss out on the roast dinner feast the other nine celebrities enjoyed after Sunday's (24.11.19) live trial.

The deed caused the camp to lose a star after Andrew won 10 out of a possible 12 stars for camp during Tuesday's (26.11.19) Bushtucker Trial.

When meal time came, the celebrities were informed they would only be getting nine meals as a punishment for the smuggling.

After receiving the news, Ian said: "If I knew they were going to punish us I'd have ate it out in the open."

And Caitlyn added: "It's a little disappointing that it went from 10 stars to nine stars because of smuggling.

"I honestly can't imagine anyone in this group smuggling food. I mean how low do you have to go?"
