The BBC Sport presenter admitted he has rejected a number of approaches to be on the programme, in part because his spouse Harriet had worked backstage on the show in 2004 and witnessed the infamous 'Strictly curse' - which has seen celebrity contestants' relationships end while on the show, often amid speculation about their closeness to their professional partners - in action.

Jake - who has children Florence, nine, and Sebastian, seven, with Harriet - told The Sun on Sunday newspaper's Bizarre column: “When I was doing Formula 1, I regularly had to field requests from 'Strictly' but there were two reasons for not doing it.

“The first was that I was always away at that time of year and the second was that my wife worked on the show, and she was like: ‘You are never going on that show, I know what happens to couples that go on that show!’ I was banned from doing that one.”

Meanwhile, Jake admitted he is desperate to get rapper Stormzy on his 'High Performance' podcast after the 'Vossi Bop' hitmaker previously professed to being a fan.

He said: “I know that he listens. He invited us up to Glasgow to watch one of his shows.

“We haven’t yet been able to nail a date but I would love to.”

The 44-year-old presenter previously singled out Matthew McConaughey as one of his favourite guests on the podcast.

He said: “He was amazing. He spoke about an optimistic mindset, and said he kept a journal every single day – and when things were bad, instead of wondering why, he read his journal around periods when he was feeling good. And he looked at what he was doing, the lessons he was taking, the people he was hanging out with, and he was able to get himself back into that positive space. I thought that was a really fantastic way of looking at life.”
