The 46-year-old actress - who is best known for playing Stacey Shipman in the comedy series - insisted she doesn't know if there's any truth in speculation there will be a 2024 Christmas special for the show and she "never" asks co-stars and writers Ruth Jones and James Corden if they are planning anything.

She told RadioTimes.com: “I have absolutely no idea what’s going on, it’s the same as what it’s been for the last six years. I never ask Ruth or James if they’re doing anymore or anything, they’re the ones who write it.

"I don’t have a clue. I have no idea what’s happening. It was just such a fab job to work on and we all adore each other, we’re all like family.... I’ve got no other information than there was last time I said.

“I’ve never ever asked them [Ruth and James] if they’re going to write anymore, I don’t know why. I just never ever have. So I absolutely have no idea. No idea.”

But Joanna admitted she would jump at the chance to play Stacey again.

She said: “Oh god, I think we all would.

"It was just a job completely different to any other. We’re all like a family. I just love them all dearly, they’re just such fab people, so I think we all would love to meet up again and do another one.”

Her comments come after Ruth recently dismissed reports there was a new special episode in the works.

During an appearance on RTE Radio 1, she said: “It’s sadly a rumour... All I can say is, if there was something to say on that front, James and I would happily announce it, we would.

“Apparently there’s a bidding war going on between the BBC and Netflix and I love it because it says ‘a source says’, who is this source?”

Ruth theorised that the rumours came to be after she was pictured having lunch with James in the U.S. after he had finished his stint as the presenter on the 'Late Late Show'.

She explained: “Then the next thing is ‘Oh my god they must be writing more 'Gavin and Stacey’, which is lovely.

“It’s lovely that people are so desperate for it because imagine if it was the opposite and were like ‘Oh, god, you’re not bringing that back again’.”
