Joey Essex took on Matthew Wright in last night's 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!', and beat the TV host in one of the show's closest calls.

The 'Only Way is Essex' hunk won five meals for the Snake Rock camp after the pair both consumed five gruesome meals of pork chow brains, ostrich penis, camel toe, a scorpion and turkey testicles, but Joey beat Matthew by milliseconds after drinking blended bugs in the fastest time.

Both Joey and Matthew were shocked at some of the meals they were tasked with eating, and the reality TV star took a big dislike to the ostrich penis.

He said: "It's so dirty, man. It tastes like a school rubber with a load of wee all over it with vinegar and tomato sauce."

After eating the animal's private part, Matthew quipped: "My mum is going to be so proud, to see her little boy up there eating c**k on the TV with Joey from 'TOWIE'."

Joey prevailed much to the delight of his fellow Snake Rock campmates, snooker legend Steve Davis, stunning model Amy Willerton, former Olympian Rebecca Adlington and 'EastEnders' star Laila Morse, and the Red Team were rewarded with a dinner of kangaroo shanks.

Following the traumatic trial, Matthew announced he was sure he had done enough to avoid another "for some time".

However, 'The Wright Stuff' host and Joey were chosen by the public to do the third Bushtucker Trial of the series, Up To Your Neck in It, much to the devastation of the TV presenter.

Meanwhile, show bosses have been celebrating after the programme's opening episode on Sunday night (17.11.13) achieved the second highest ratings of the year after peaking at a staggering 12.9 million viewers - beaten only by tennis star Andy Murray's Wimbledon heroics this summer.

ITV boss Peter Fincham told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "A peak audience of nearly 13 million viewers in its 13th series is a testament to the continuing power of this show."

What's more, the opening episode also attracted more than 254,000 tweets, according to Virgin Media's measurement tool The Hotlist.

The most talked about celebrity was Joey Essex who had a staggering 35,850 tweets written about him after he created a new word, 'confrontate', which was referenced on 2,528 tweets.

'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' continues on Wednesday (20.11.13) at 9pm on ITV.
