The new 'Doctor Who' star - who was born in Liverpool - says his penchant for casual clothes results in people approaching him for illegal substances when he is out and about .

The stand-up comedian told the Daily Star newspaper: "I was recently walking around Dudley town centre and I was mistaken for a drug dealer. I can’t think why? It seems to happen quite a bit.”

John, 54, will play Dan Lewis in the upcoming series 'Doctor Who: Flux', a new companion to Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor.

The comic has spilled that he got caught trying to let out a sneaky fart on his first day of filming on the BBC One sci-fi show.

He said: “I tried to style it out like it didn’t happen, forgetting that I obviously got a microphone over my head and I was in a body suit, and there’s a whole sound crew sitting there with headphones on giggling.”

Meanwhile, John is to present a brand new Saturday night ITV comedy show, 'The John Bishop Show'.

The comedy superstar and actor - currently on a huge arena tour with his new stand-up show 'Right Here Right Now' - will bring his all-round comedic brilliance to ITV for six weeks.

John will interview the “hottest names in film, TV, sport, music and more in front of a live studio audience”.

Speaking about the exciting new project, John said: "We’ve been discussing making a Saturday night show for ITV for a while and I am so glad that we are finally going to be doing it. We want it to be up to date and topical, whilst also fitting the energy and fun that Saturday nights on ITV is known for.”
