Karen Gillan insists she isn't going to be abandoning Britain for Hollywood.

The 26-year-old actress is set to star in new US sitcom 'Selfie', but she won't make a permanent move to Los Angeles if the show's a success.

Speaking at the European premiere of her new film 'Guardians of the Galaxy' in London's Leicester Square last night (24.07.14), Karen exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "I'm not going to leave the UK, I promise. I'm coming home as much as possible.

"I miss home so much, I have to be totally honest."

But the former 'Doctor Who' star - who will play a vapid American girl in the new comedy - admits she felt the need to expand her acting horizons because she doesn't want to be stuck making British period dramas.

She said: "The opportunities for actresses my age out there are really amazing. They're amazing here too, but I feel like it's a lot of period dramas and I don't really want to wear a corset for the rest of my career."

Karen's former boss, 'Doctor Who' executive producer Steven Moffat, showed support for the flame-haired beauty at the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' premiere and he was full of praise for the starlet.

However, he doesn't feel he deserves credit for bringing her to worldwide attention by casting her as Amy Pond.

Steven enthused: "It's phenomenal! I suppose she is a film star, she looks like one and she's genuinely, hugely talented and tremendously ambitious.

"I don't deserve an iota of the credit. I'm lucky in some casting choices of late, but it's easy to spot brilliant people. It's Karen's talent that's taken her here."
