The 52-year-old TV presenter has been on a break from the morning show, during which she took part in 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!', and despite putting her make-up on and getting dressed before she went to bed last night in preparation for her comeback, the star forgot to set an alarm and didn't make it in for the early morning programme.

She wrote on Instagram: "Oh no - disaster - overslept on my 1st morning back at work on @gmb . Fell asleep last night fully made up with clothes on and contacts in - didn't set alarm . Woke up looking like this !!!??!!! Can't believe it - am going to get fired first morning back! And to think @adeleroberts & @romankemp we were talking about this in the jungle and I was proudly saying I had never overslept enough in 20 years to actually miss a show !!!! That's karma !!!! (sic)"

'GMB' hosts Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh, who stepped in for the star, rang Kate when they were on air to ask her what happened.

Speaking at just after 6am on 'GMB', she said: "I've still got my shoes on. I fell asleep and the next thing I know it was like 20 minutes ago.

"I've never done this in 20 years.

"When we were in the jungle I was so smug because I was saying, 'I've never overslept and missed a show.'

"Because I get up so early that even if I've overslept it's still only like 3.15. And I've done it now.

"I'm going to get fired. I'm in total shock."

Ben joked: "You have one sniff of prime-time and this is what happens."

But Kate replied: "No! It's not that at all, it's the opposite.

"It was my first show back. Shall I just come now?"

And Ben thanked Ranvir for "coming to the rescue" by stepping in for Kate on the programme at the last minute.

He wrote: "So @kategarraway sent me this pic when she woke up 15 mins before @GMB starts!! She's overslept (she's changed!) in her clothes + make up from night before. Have u ever overslept or missed a big event, nd what happened?? Thank goodness for @ranvir01 coming 2 the rescue (sic)"

This comes just a week after Kate admitted she had been struggling with jet lag after returning from Australia.

She shared a video of herself on Instagram, and captioned the clip: "Home!!! And seriously wide awake at 4am - jet lagged!!"

Her campmate Jacqueline Jossa - who won the ITV show to be crowned Queen of the Jungle - was also struggling to doze off.

Kate added: "@jacjossa so glad not just me!! Hope you get to sleep later! (sic)"
