The 53-year-old TV presenter is yet to see Derek Draper this year amid his health battle, which began when he was diagnosed with coronavirus in March last year and he was placed in an induced coma in April.

Speaking on ‘Good Morning Britain’ on Thursday (11.02.21), she said: "I haven't been able to see him since Christmas, which means he’s back into a situation of looking at strangers in masks.

"That’s the situation for everybody who’s got somebody they love in hospital at the moment. It’s tough. When you’re someone like him, dealing with a consciousness problem and trying to emerge, I can't help but fear it’s not helpful. There’s no end in sight to that. There’s no one to blame or be angry with. It’s tough."

Derek fought off coronavirus itself several months after being hospitalised, but he is still battling the lasting effects of the virus.

And Kate previously admitted she is finding the situation tough to deal with.

She explained: "It's been a strange time, I've been a bit low since Christmas - physically low, I felt physically at the end of my tether and had to regroup a bit.

"This week, a friend of mine's mother-in-law, who is 51 - younger than me - died from COVID . She got it at Christmas, it went down very quickly and she died, I just thought I can't believe that here we are so far on.

"Derek's still ravaged from the effects of COVID  from way back in March, his recovery is incredibly uncertain.

"I'm trying to look for new things and new ways and talking to doctors about what we can do for him meanwhile people are still dying in extraordinary numbers - people that aren't older and haven't got underlying conditions, it's unbearable."
