Lydia Wilson is set to star in a new psychological thriller for BBC One and Netflix.

The 32-year-old actress will take on the role of Matilda in the upcoming television series 'Requiem', alongside co-stars including Joel Fry, James Frecheville, Clare Rushbrook, Tara Fitzgerald, Richard Harrington, Joanna Scanlan and Brendan Coyle.

'Requiem' follows the story of Matilda - helped by her best friend Hal (Fry) and stranger Nick (Freecheville) - who has her life turned upside down when by her mother's inexplicable suicide. In the wake of the tragedy, Matilda begins to question everything and heads off on a journey which leads her to a Welsh village haunted by its past which saw a toddler disappear 23 years prior.

Commissioned by BBC One, funding support for the programme was provided by the Welsh Government which ensured filming took place in Wales and provided jobs for Welsh crews, facilities companies, and local suppliers.

Production company New Pictures is co-producing the venture alongside Netflix, who will air the programme globally outside of the UK. all3media Intertnational are handling all international sales of the show.

Creator and writer Kris Mrksa said of the project: "'Requiem' is the show I've always wanted to make. To be making it with the team at New Pictures, and for the BBC and Netflix, networks that I so greatly admire, really is a dream come true."

Whilst Piers Wenger, Controller for BBC Drama added in a statement: "Kris Mrska's 'Requiem' is a unique thriller with a strong authorial vision and a wonderful cast confirmed. BBC One continues to bring audiences exciting and bold original drama series."

A release date for the project has not yet been announced, though casting announcements recently revealed Clare Rushbrook will play a woman named Rose, Tara Fitzgerald's character is named Hilary, Richard Harrington will portray Aron, Joanna Scanlan will play Janice, and Brendan Coyle's role is called Kendrick.

Further cast includes Trudy by Sian Reese Williams, Ed by Dyfan Dwyfor and Harry by Ifan Huw Thomas.

Filming for 'Requiem' began in Newport, Wales, on Thursday (23.03.17)
