The 33-year-old actress - who stars opposite current Time Lady Jodie Whittaker as companion PC Yasmin 'Yaz' Khan - has revealed there wasn't a dry eye in the room when they wrapped filming 'Doctor Who: Flux'.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, she said: "I cried and I don’t really cry.

"People behind the camera cried, so I think hopefully – I don’t want [fans] to cry, but they should cry!"

Although she didn't provide any plot teasers, Mandip shared how her character will leave plenty of unanswered questions, while she insisted her alter ego will "always need the Doctor".

She shared: "I want to leave her with still some questions.

"I don’t want her to know everything, I don’t want her to know how everything works and be confident if she stays in space or if she goes back to Sheffield.

"It has naturally developed her as a person. When she does go back to Sheffield eventually, she’ll be the best police officer ever because she’s come up against so many frightening aliens, monsters [and] people that she shouldn’t really be scared of anything in Sheffield! But also I think she’s really found herself.

"As you’ll see, there are questions in this series that she was toying with. She didn’t really know how to put into words, she didn’t know what she was feeling and this journey for her has brought to the surface so many emotions that she may never have dealt with had she stayed in Sheffield doing what she was doing.

"Also, naturally, she’s got more confidence, she knows how certain things work. She’ll always need the Doctor, you’ll see that, she actually will genuinely always need the Doctor, regardless of how much the Doctor’s taught her, but there is room for her to develop."

Mandip added how the production is "bigger" in general and there will be "lots of real emotions".

She added: "It’s definitely bigger than we’ve done before in terms of characters, emotions, sets, costume, prosthetics, everything just steps up that little bit.

"There’s lots of unanswered questions that are answered, there’s more questions that are posed, and there’s lots of real emotions!"

The new series of 'Doctor Who' launches on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on October 31st.
