The ‘Tragedy’ hitmaker became the sixth celebrity to be unmasked on the popular ITV competition series on Saturday (04.02.23), with Claire unveiled as Knitting.

But the Steps singer, 45, revealed she was having a costume catastrophe and feared she was going to pass out while filming the series because her outfit was so hot and heavy, so she had to wear ice packs in her bra.

Despite her inconspicuous disguise, Claire was rumbled by the judging panel, which consists of Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan.

She told The Sun newspaper: “I tried to put this American country twang on in the first week but by the end of the song, I couldn’t breathe. So that went out the window. It was really hot.

“I just had a thin layer on underneath and ice packs all tucked in my bra and all sorts of things.”

The 90s superstar had to come up for air literally with mask breaks while performing as Knitting, which was the heaviest costume of the year.

She added: “My head was always the last one to go on, my little booth thing was closest to the stage.

“The floor manager would always say, 'Right, once everybody else is in place, then Knitting.' It was the heaviest costume this year.”

Claire admitted she was offered a few options but opted for Knitting as she wanted her body to be completely covered up and not have to worry what she looked like.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I always knew that I wanted to be something that was completely covered up and not really something pretty or beautiful.

"With Steps because we wear quite tight glittery costumes so I wanted something completely away from that and not be worried for a change about what [my body] looks like.

"So I knew I wanted to be something completely covered up."
