Excitement is building more and more every day for what the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has on its list this year (2022), including movies like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and TV shows like Ms. Marvel. However, one character is gripping the interest of fans worldwide.

Moon Knight is the newest addition to the MCU, and with the series’ release right around the corner, excitement is growing as more short clips are released to hype up Marvel’s newest character.

Moon Knight, aka Stephen Grant, aka Marc Spector, is played by Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina, Dune), who has dissociative identity disorder (DID), so sometimes doesn’t know who he is.

This upcoming show focuses on Grant as his mental illness gets a tighter hold on him, creating his alter ego, Moon Knight.

There have been many short clips released ahead of Moon Knight’s Disney+ debut (March 30th, 2022), and each has a significant theme; the most recent clip was released yesterday, and highlights one of Isaac’s co-stars, May Calamawy.

Calamawy plays Layla in the forthcoming Disney+ series, a character who is highlighted briefly in the recently released video.

It seems as though Layla and Grant had a life together before Moon Knight arrived, and she is heartbroken that he cannot remember both who he is, or what they went through together.

“You really don’t remember?” asks Layla, hurt that someone she seemingly cares about can’t recall “our adventures”.

While Marvel is praised repeatedly for their iconic movies, they don’t always focus on the mental health side of things; such as when Thor gained some weight in Avengers: Endgame (2019), it was seen as more of a joke, rather than genuine concern.

While the studio seemed to understand that weight gain can be a side effect of depression, from which Thor seemed to be suffering from, it wasn’t explored too deeply, perhaps due to the length of the movie.

However, the theme of Moon Knight seems to be mental health, DID specifically, so it will definitely be interesting to see Marvel handle a mental illness such as this one.

Moon Knight debuts on Disney+ on March 30th, 2022.

I have been excited for Moon Knight ever since the show’s first announcement. The character interests me a lot, so I can’t wait to see Isaac in Grant’s shoes.

With perhaps the biggest and most notable thing about Grant being that he has DID, I’m really interested to see how Marvel handles this character, as this mental illness is not a light concept.

Other than that, the visuals look incredible, Moon Knight’s costume is absolutely amazing, and I can’t wait for Marvel to (hopefully!) knock another series out of the park.
